I didn't find this novel easy to read. Each chapter is written from one of seven different people, and though each chapter is titled with that person's name, I still found it difficult to switch from one perspective to another. Each narrator also combines their account of the current events (a drawing together on a stormy night into a deserted house) with memories, which themselves often jump from one time to another.

I think, however, that if I had read this book some other time - when my personal life was less wearying - then I would have really enjoyed it.I have many times enjoyed books that I have to focus on and think about along the way, but right now I'm looking for escapism.

The story is good - a coming together of disparate personalities, with all their personal griefs and hang-ups, and a touch of the supernatural.I continue to recommend Knox.
